Yagyoi Kusama combines pop art, minimalism and psychedelia in her paintings, sculpture, literature, performances, presentations, films, design, and architecture.
LOVE IS CALLING is considered the culmination of her artistic career. It consists of a dark mirrored room lit by large, inflatable forms, covered in her signature polka dots, which slowly change colors.
As you experience the work, you’ll hear a recording of Kusama reciting a love poem in Japanese. She composed the poem, which translates in English to “Residing in a Castle of Shed Tears.” The themes encompass life and death, and Kusama’s desire to express a message of love through her art.
