Face Facts: With Boston’s Dr. Jaimie DeRosa, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon

Dr. Jaimie DeRosa is a double board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, and the founder and lead physician at DeRosa Clinical Facial Aesthetics in Boston. Dr. DeRosa specializes in facial procedures, with an emphasis on rhinoplasty and aging face surgery, and is the only facility of its kind that does full-service general anesthesia for surgeries. Dr. DeRosa and her associates provide clients with personalized treatments that deliver long-lasting, natural looking results. Dr. DeRosa also is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School.

We asked Dr. DeRosa how women over 60 can take advantage of cosmetic procedures to look fresh and rested…

What’s the one piece of beauty advice you’d give to any woman over 60 who wants to look her best?

Take time for yourself to do self-care, eat healthy, and exercise. These things together will result in beauty that doesn’t come from just one thing but rather from a whole complex of measures.

Are your 60s too late to begin having cosmetic procedures?

Your 60s are definitely not too late to begin having procedures! I have many women (and men) over 60 who come in for their first cosmetic procedures/treatments. These days, 60 is NOT old, and I see men and women in their 60s and 70s who desire to look as youthful as they feel. Now, this does not mean that they should or want to look like they did in their 20s or 30s, but instead, they are looking to reverse the clock a bit.

What are the most popular procedures for women over 60?

The most popular procedures women over 60 get at the DeRosa Clinic are mini-facelifts, eyelid lifts, browlifts, Profound RF skin tightening, and, of course, Botox and fillers. As a facial plastic surgeon, I’m loving the results I see when these women have a mini-facelift combined with Profound RF skin tightening, using IV sedation. The mini-facelift surgery can help tighten the underlying tissue and remove excess skin. The Profound RF device stimulates the creation of Elastin (it helps your skin “snap back”), collagen, and hyaluronic acid. The best part about this is that it can all be done in the comfort and privacy of our AAAASF-certified surgery center right here on Newbury Street [in Boston’s Back Bay].

I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention that I think it is critical for anyone undergoing facial rejuvenation procedures to also have a good skin care regimen. Our Aesthetician can create a targeted skin care regimen for home that complements the client’s skin care treatments here in the Clinic.

When should we stop having cosmetic procedures?

If a person has significant medical issues that affect their daily life, we might want to talk first about the pros and cons of cosmetic procedures. Sometimes, we can find less invasive options for those who may not be good candidates for surgery.
