December Fun for Women in Greater Boston

There are dozens of special happenings in and around Boston this month, and we selected the best of the best we think women in our age group will enjoy. Take a break from shopping, gift wrapping, cleaning the chimney for Santa, and have fun!

For events in Boston, masks are required.

Open Mic Night, December 2, 7-9:30pm at the North End Music & Performing Arts Center in Boston – Are you the next Ella Fitzgerald? Find out at this free event featuring musicians of all levels. This month they’re asking people to think holidays for your ensembles and music choices. It looks like a great night out with friends and family. The suggested donation is $5/person. Paint, Plant & Pot Night, December 3, 7-9:300pm at “Boho in Boston” in Somerville – Boho in Boston and Boston Plant Run are teaming up for a special evening full of beautiful houseplants, pots to paint, and plants to take home. Local artists PlandaDesign will share ideas for how to paint your terracotta pot and saucer while you enjoy an evening with friends. Tickets are $65/person. To learn more and register click here

SoWa Winter Festival, December 3-12 at the SOWA Power Station in Boston – This fabulous holiday event is taking place across three festival locations and 10 days of winter wonderland magic. You can buy a fully lit Christmas tree; view and buy original art; eat tasty food; sip a winter cocktail; book a session with a photographer (tickets are separate, $100 for 30 minutes, up to 7 per party); design your own jewelry or other crafts – and more. Holiday Tea at the Historic Oliver House, December 7, 9, 12, 15, 1-3pm at the Oliver Estate in Wakefield – Relax for a bit while you sip tea served in porcelain cups and sample traditional scones and treats in Christmas-y surroundings with three of your friends/family at this beautiful historic house. Decorate Your Gingerbread House, December 8, 7-9pm at Loretta’s Last Call in Boston – Keep your spirits bright and grab your friends for this cocktail and crafts night with live music! Tickets include all the materials you need to build a honkytonk gingerbread house, plus a seasonal adult drink. Tickets are $17.55/person. To learn more and register click here

Holiday Sip & Shop, December 12, 2-5pm at Boston Harbor Distillery in Boston – Is shopping better with live music and a craft cocktail in your hand? Find out when you visit this market and enjoy the great variety of vendors offering items including glass and bottle engravings, handmade candles and soaps, a photo booth, hair and skin products, and clothing – all made by local artisans. Salem Jazz & Soul Festival Holiday Fundraiser, December 12, 4-8pm at Backbeat Brewing Company in Beverly – Enjoy special performances by Alumni of the North Shore Jazz Project, as well as gift baskets, raffles, and merchandise you can buy. Boston Women’s Holiday Market, December 12 and 19, 12-5pm at the new Charles River Speedway in Brighton/Allston – Shop over 25 local women-founded small businesses for the perfect gift for your women friends and family. Tickets are free. To learn more click here
