Update: The Playhouse has cancelled its 2020 season because of Covid-19. You can watch the Executive Artistic Director’s message here: www.ogunquitplayhouse.org/health-and-safety
The Ogunquit Playhouse is a legend in American theater. Since it was founded 88 years ago it’s showcased classic and new musical comedy and dramatic performances by hundreds of established and rising talents.
Here’s this season’s lineup:
Dirty Dancing – May 13 to June 20
Crazy for You – June 24 to July 25
Mr. Holland’s Opus – August 2 to 22
The War of the Roses – August 28 to September 19
On Your Feet: The Story of Gloria and Emilio Estafan – September 23 to October 25
Member pre-sales begin March 11. Single ticket sales begin March 18. Show subscriptions are on sale now. The website also lists local restaurants and hotels/inns.
The Playhouse is one of the original, and last remaining, homes of the Summer Stock tradition that gives theater professionals an opportunity to present existing shows and try out new material during American theater’s off season.
Brenda’s cousin Sheila has been a House Manager for the last few summers and loves it. She told us the Playhouse has a “ghost light,” which is a lamp on stage that stays on when the Playhouse is empty. Luckily she hasn’t seen any ghosts.

So sad to report that the Playhouse recently made a very difficult decision to stay closed this summer. First time since World War II. There was just no way to keep everyone safe, from patrons, to performers, to employees. So it will remain dark until 2021. ?
So sad, all the joy it brings and all the people who will lose income. Hoping for a smashing season next year. XO
