Can I Get That In Writing? – Boston Area Stationery Shops

Remember when people would send handwritten notes or letters to say thank you, express condolences, or just keep in touch? Before the Internet, before cell phones, I had a boyfriend who lived across the country. I would write to him on scented lilac paper, and he’d send me hilarious doodle-filled letters on legal pads.

These days it’s much easier and faster to stay in touch by text or email. But during this time of social distancing finding a card or letter among the daily bills and catalogs can make a person’s day. And for the writer, those quiet minutes while you’re writing can feel like a visit.

Here are a few stationers who sell beautiful ready-made and custom paper products. Check and see if they’re open before you go; if they’re closed because of Covid-19 you might be able to place an order online or via phone:

Felix Doolittle – whimsical occasion cards, note cards, labels, calendars and more. 35 Border Street, West Newton, 617.969.8883  www.felixdoolittle.com

Rugg Road Paper Co. – began over 30 years ago to create custom stationery. They’ve expanded to offer gifts, specialty papers, stationery, cards and invitations. 105 Charles Street, Boston, 617.742.0002 www.ruggroadpaper.com

Paper Source – a wide selection of stationery, note cards, notebooks and other paper products. It’s a national chain with local stores in Dedham, Wellesley, Brookline, Cambridge and Chestnut Hill. 1.888.727.3711 www.papersource.com

And, supermarkets like Roche Brothers carry really nice blank cards, too.
