Romance After 50: Author Barbara Matteson

We were delighted to catch up with local author Barbara Matteson to ask her about her wonderful book, The Perfect Mrs. Claus, and to chat about her next book due out in May 2024…

Barbara, what gave you the idea to write The Perfect Mrs. Claus?

As a big fan of Christmas movies, I started to notice that there were no stories about someone like me – a woman in her 50s (which I was when I wrote The Perfect Mrs. Claus).  There was always the mother, or the aunt, or the grandmother, but never the main character, so I decided that I would write a Christmas romance about a woman in her 50s who is given a second chance at love and life.

What would you like people to take away from the book?

That life can begin again when one, especially a woman, enters into midlife. The children are grown, perhaps there was a divorce, or a death, and if you find yourself on your own, embrace life and take a chance – you never know where it might take you!

Tell us a little about your next book.

It’s called Beach Rose Path. It’s about another midlife woman who had had a pretty rough couple of years, and things are about to get rougher when she loses not only her job, but her home  a home that held many sacred memories for her.  An opportunity for another job in another state comes along, which takes her to Beach Rose Path, where she finds that love, and life, could begin again. It will be published May 7, 2024.

You can buy The Perfect Mrs. Claus here and we’ll be back to preview Beach Rose Path next spring.
